Bronx Businessman’s Vacation Resort Attracts Worldwide Recognition
By Cherrylin Williams
The Dunn’s Villa and Resort in Rose Hall Montego Bay is now the hottest attraction on the tourist market in the paradise island of Jamaica. The multi million dollar venture sits atop four acres of hilltop terrain overlooking the Carribbean. Features of air conditioned eleven room complex are satellite television, sun roof deck, jacuzy, swimming pool with bar and a grill. To compliment the attractions are a private sandy beach and a golf course nearby.
Dunn’s Villa is situated on one of the historical legendary sites classified among the Jamaican archival memory. During the slavery era, Rose Hall was the domain of the notorious white witch Anne Palmer when sugar was king of colony. According to legend, Annie Palmer was a devil woman who exploited and murdered four husbands and treated her slaves with brutal savagery . Today the Rose Hall Great House, where Palmer lived, is a major tourist attraction in Montego Bay.It took the expertise and foresight of a master mind to convert this mind boggling legend into an exotic haven for vacationers.
The mystical grandeur of the resort is the brainchild of the suave and congenial businessman Howard Dunn who migrated to the Bronx twenty eight years ago. Elegantly dressed in well tailored suits, Dunn manages the Montego Bay Luxurious car and limousine service with head offices on Laconia Avenue in the Bronx. Efficient service and respect for customers result in a highly successful business. Being married Dunn has fathered four children, one of whom practices medicine at the Interfaith Hospital in Brooklyn. The demands of family life and a job has not deterred him from commuting between the Bronx and Jamaica on a regular basis.
As past member of the Wembley Cricket League in the Bronx, Dunn engages in a host of fundraising events to support this venture. He also sponsors several soccer leagues in Montego Bay. Now his dreams are realized by having team members competing in world cup series. One proud product of these efforts is Aldanc Dunn, an ardent soccer player, who is now part of the national team. Today the most covered prize among soccer players is the Howard Dunn Trophy, a contribution by the man himself. Dunn’s openmindedness, coupled with a sobering American experience activated him into attracting a wide cross section universal community to his Jamaican Villa. The idea is to provide a common ground for a miniature multi cultural community among vacationers. This idea came about as a result of his fascination with the unique Americans.
Dunn has launched a major public relations sales and marketing blitz worldwide to profile his property. So far the response has been good. “ It is my intention to create an income for my fellow Jamaicans by purchasing their produce like fish, poultry and vegetables, and also to employ them in my service. Vacationers will not forget this enriching experience amidst the warmth of the friendly people of the tropics, “ said Dunn. Natives will add to that by promoting the unique speciality of the villa, a nutritious drink called “Witch’s Brew”. They say it will activate sexual prowess similar to that of Annie Palmer’s who was reknowned for insatiable appetite. “ I spent seven fun filled days at Dunn’s Villa.” said Cliff Bogues , a Long Island resident . The courteous cultured staff is always eager to grant your every wish. It is an experience no one should miss. The resort has great potentials and has definitely stolen the lime light in the Rose Hall community.” Marsha Dixon, a Bronx resident said, “ I am interested in this new experience. Next Month when I take my vacation Dunn’s Villa is definitely my choice.”
What better way to spend a well earned vacation but in a tranquil atmosphere among a diverse group of people ; surely this is an educational experience with a difference. The picturesque setting enchance the grandeur of the complex which is next door to the vacation villa of American country music king Johnny Cash . The breath taking scenery was also the location where the James Bond thriller “Live and Let Die” starring Roger Moore was filmed.
Right now stupendous package deals are offered as a promotional bid to attract customers. Inclusive in this offer are planned tours of the surrounding areas , especially the Mount Zion Church where it is said slaves from Annie Palmer’s estate carried bricks from as far away as eight miles to build the temple. Howard Dunn has created a wealth of intriguing adventures with magical historical overtones. It would be good to put him to the test.
